The decagon has arrived in Baytown .

Ultimate Fighting Championships aspirants and enthusiasts will now have the opportunity to train in the cage as TKS Martial Arts has gone into partnership with Elite Mixed Martial Arts.

“We really liked the after-school program that TKS has developed and we think that Baytown is a great market for what we have to offer,” Frost Murphy said. “Mixed martial arts is self defense-oriented, it’s a great way to get into shape and it’s practical in that it could possibly safe your life one day.”

Mixed martial arts incorporate Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling and striking ability. The sport has steadily grown in popularity with the rise of Ultimate Fighting Championships.

Elite Mixed Martial Arts offers two locations in Houston and one in The Woodlands. Sign-ups for the program began Friday night at an open house and will continue through the month with lessons set to begin at the beginning of March.

The addition of Elite MMA will also bring a 30-foot cage, new mats and 12 new kickboxing bags to the facility.

“These guys are awesome and I can’t tell you how glad we are to have them here,” TKS owner Julia Palmer said. “What they do is a mainstream sport and no one else offers it on this side of I-45.”

The addition of mixed martial arts will bring three new full-time instructors to the facility with the addition of 10 roving instructors from the other three Elite Mixed Martial Arts locations.

Jordan Rivas is slated to be the main instructor in Baytown . The Houston native is a member of Elite’s Pro MMA team and captured the silver medal at this year’s Pan American Games as well as a bronze medal in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu World Championships.

Rivas began training in mixed martial arts seven years ago and has won 70 Jiu-Jitsu matches.

“I just love to compete,” Rivas said. “That is what drives me personally.”

Murphy also comes with an impressive pedigree, having posted 50 wins in Jiu-Jitsu competitions with a 90 percent submission rate.

The Houston native was introduced to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu the summer before he started attending classes at Texas Tech, where he pole-vaulted for the track team. Following graduation, Frost moved to Rio de Janeiro , Brazil , where he studied under the Gracie family, legends in the sport.

The MMA program will be open to 200 adults and 60 kids with classes already filling up. TKS will also continue to offer Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, cardio kickboxing, a fight fit class and the ever-popular bikini boot camp.

“We can offer anything for someone who wants to get in shape or for someone that wants to compete at the highest levels,” Murphy said.
